The Forest Gallery
San Josef Bay Trees
San Josef Bay is on the far northern tip of Vancouver Island. I enjoy the time there just being with the trees and ocean.
Pioneers at Coal Beach
The coal hills are just that huge mounds of coal left over from the early 1900’s. enjoy seeing the progression of the pioneer plant reclaiming the waste land.
Wild Roses
June turns the thick brush into a destination. This is one of my favorite bushes, countless flowers and the air filled with the rose scent.
Towering Up From the Clearing
Popping out of the forest and into this clearing I just had to look up ti see the open sky, and only now able am I able to see just how tall the trees are.
Giants Hiding
While in an old growth forest, , everything fits, even being beside a giant can be a surprise as it is just one part of the forest.
Forest Interface at the Beach
The interface between the sand beach and the forest is very dynamic, generating some stability out of this ever changing environment; the shifting abrasive sand that is incrementally stabilized, the salt spray the that is shielded, the seasonal storm blasts that can carve out a different shoreline. Yet as soon as there is a certain amount of stability the forest begins.
Fir on the Hill
This old growth fir is near the crest of the hill, so its top has been blown off keeping the forest the same height.
Looking Up Through the Clearing
When I got to this clearing, a hawk began to call out announcing my presence. All of the animals and birds knew that was my current location.
Rainy day in the forest
This is the temperate rain forest and it is just so normal for the forest to enjoy a rainy day.
Unending Cooperation
When the trail took a sharp turn, showing the instability of the rubble and rock. Yet these two giants have been cooperating with each other to stabilize this steep slope; it seems to be working out pretty well for the last couple of centuries anyway.
The Three Firs
I was walking along the valley bottom enjoying being deep in the forest. The valley took a turn and the forest opened a bit letting my eyes feast on this sight of three majestic giants up the hill
